Well it was just the other night
I saw the strangest flashing lights
Penetrate the peaceful sky
And there I stood mesmerized
Its movements were unconfined
By physic, logic, space, or time
And just as soon as it arrived, it disappeared
Later on as I flipped bottle caps
At newspapers in musty stacks
Men in sharp suits showed up and
Spoke to me through the screen
They knew my name and my last four
And through gritted teeth against the door
They told me what I thought I saw
Is not what I had seen at all
Traded in my seat at the bar
For nights alone spent searching stars
A dark van stays parked on my street
not what I would call discreet
I think I saw this episode
Serling presented long ago:
A man loses his mind and home
Wondering if we’re not alone
Sometimes they call when I’m in bed,
Silent black void, the line goes dead
It’s not like anyone’d believe me
Were I inclined to tell
If we’re alone, what wasted space
But if we’re not, I wish they’d grace
This riverbank once more and take me with them for a spell
